Thankfully the author, Siobhan Vivian, put The List just a few pages in, so I could quickly reference the characters.īefore I read the book I sort of assumed that the ugly girls in the book would have a fucked up time and the pretty girls were going to be jerks and make fun of the ugly girls and blah blah blah typical high school BS. The only time I needed a refresher on the characters was when I started reading again after having to put the book down. When I received this book, I was worried that I was going to get confused on who was who because the book follows eight girls after they were either named the prettiest and ugliest of their grade. Prettiest or ugliest, once you’re on the list, you’ll never be the same. With THE LIST, Siobhan Vivian deftly takes you into the lives of eight very different girls struggling with issues of identity, self-esteem, and the judgments of their peers. The girls who are become the center of attention, and each reacts differently to the experience. The girls who aren’t picked are quickly forgotten. One is named the prettiest, one the ugliest. It happens every year before homecoming - the list is posted all over school.
